Whale Sharks
Whale sharks are the largest fish in the ocean with confirmed sightings of over 18 m. Don’t let their size concern you as these gentle giants are exclusively filter feeders eating plankton and small fish. Inhabiting all tropical oceans, they can migrate long distance in search of food. Each whale shark has a distinctive pattern of white spots and stripes on its skin similar to a human fingerprint.
Despite their powerful bodies they swim slowly with graceful movements making them ideal to snorkel beside. Be careful not to come to close. In the Philippines the law states you must maintain a distance of 1.2 m from the sharks.
