Marsa Alam

RED SEA, EGYPT

Less crowded than the snorkeling spots further north along the Red Sea, Marsa Alam boasts crystal-clear waters teeming with vibrant marine life. Schools of surgeonfish glide gracefully past a kaleidoscope of butterflyfish and angelfish, their colors dazzling in the sunlight.  Lionfish cruise majestically along confident that their poisonous quills make a natural deterrent for predators, while serpent-like giant moray eels weave through the coral, stealthily hunting for their next meal.

Hungry Turtles graze on the eel grass beds of Abu Dabbab National Park as 25 kg Giant Trevally slowly cruise over the sandy bottom.  If you are lucky, you may even spot an elusive Dugong foraging across the eel grass.

Land Adventures

A six-hour drive from Marsa Alam brings you to Luxor, the site of the ancient city of Thebes, situated along the majestic Nile River. This historic city is home to some of the world’s most awe-inspiring archaeological wonders scattered across the valley.

Step back in time as you stroll through the colossal columns of the Temple of Karnak or ascend the grand steps leading to the magnificent Temple of Hatshepsut. Venture underground into narrow, hidden tunnels to uncover the tombs of pharaohs who ruled thousands of years ago. Among them, the Tomb of Seti I in the Valley of the Kings stands out as a breathtaking masterpiece, showcasing vividly preserved depictions of the pharaoh’s journey to the afterlife. The walls are adorned with intricate, colorful images from ancient texts, including the Book of the Dead, offering a glimpse into the beliefs and artistry of ancient Egypt.

To truly immerse yourself in Luxor’s wonders, a two-night stay is highly recommended. This allows ample time to explore its treasures and ensures a safer, more relaxed journey, avoiding the challenges of driving at night.
